Daydreaming in the Chaos

An artistic journey by Lisa D. Watson that deepens our understanding of all things that strive to safeguard wild spaces in their unique settings. Watson utilizes mixed-media collage, paintings, installations, and ceramic sculpture to portray her perceptions. Lesser-known places are depicted in the exhibit which are infused with daydreams of achieving balance between man-made infrastructure and the wilderness. These imaginative transformations convey a longing for environmental harmony and a vision for positive change.

HENRY DEAN

Henry Dean is a multimedia artist with a diverse practice of creation. Drawing, journaling, and sketching are the foundations of his creative practice. From these, he makes installations, paintings, sculptures, mixed media works, photographs, and videos.

Dean's work reflects both his immersion and responses to nature and humanity. His upbringing in the Old and New Worlds has shaped an identity grounded in rootlessness. An expressed theme in many works is defining patterns and meanings in art and art-making — visual acts of remembering and thought-cycling. A foundation to practice is the state of mind of attentiveness (being present) within given contexts. Strategies for practice include responsive and action drawing, and the consideration of history, philosophy, geography, etc.

Henry Dean teaches and writes on topics covering drawing, the visual arts, and education. He graduated from St. Andrews University, Scotland in 1980 (MFA, Geography & Fine Arts, honors) and from SCAD in 2003 (MFA, Painting). Dean is a professor in the School of Foundation Studies at SCAD, where he has taught since 1999.

A RETROSPECTIVE

Photography and pottery - what more could we ask for? Not much, considering the creators are John and Linda Jensen, two of the most gifted and influential artists in our community. This exceptional couple has been sharing the wealth of their talents as both artists and professors of art for three decades.

John G. Jensen serves as a Professor Emeritus of Ceramics and Sculpture at Armstrong State University (now Georgia Southern University) in Savannah, GA. He specializes in creating figurative ceramic sculptures and wheel-thrown art pottery. His ceramic sculptures are renowned for their intricate detailing and emotive expressions. His dedication to craftsmanship and innovation has inspired countless students and fellow artists to pursue their own creative journeys.

Linda G. Jensen is a Professor Emerita of Photography and Art Education at Armstrong State University (now Georgia Southern University) in Savannah, GA. A skilled artist, Linda hand colors black and white photographs using Marshall’s Photo Retouch colors, Prismacolor pencils, and incorporates thousands of glass seed beads along with other mixed media. Her photographs are brought to life by the vibrant use of color and texture. Her hand-colored images are not mere pictures but evocative stories that capture the subtle nuances of light and shadow.

Together, John and Linda have not only left an indelible mark on the academic world but have also enriched the cultural fabric of our community.
